Hello friends and family!
I have learned so much throughout my fundraising journey thus far, and one really important thing I’ve learned was the importance of, as I like to call it, Squads and Solos. Now you may ask “Ray, what are squads and solos?”. Well squads and solos are how I like to describe our relationships with God. Squads being your relationship with Christ and your close friends, family, and church. While solos are our one on one relationship with God. Both of these types of relationships are very important in your walk with Christ.
Over quarantine I drifted away from God not making time for Him, and rarely talking to Him because I lost my squads aspect of my relationship with the Lord. I not only pushed myself away from the Lord during that dark season of life, but also my friends as well. I ended up trapping myself in an endless spiral of pushing people away and blaming the Lord for allowing them to “walk away” from me. Our church camp came up and I felt so ashamed to even show up to the church because I turned away. This was also during my application process. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve done, applying for a mission trip by myself without being by the Lord’s side. I ended up going to church camp and sprinting back to the Lord’s arms in tears apologizing for allowing my passion for the Lord to go out. Giving all my pain to the Lord was one of the most physically and spiritually relieving experiences ever. After I rekindled my relationship with the Lord, I redid my entire application. It felt so natural filling the application out with the Lord on my side, and 100% in my relationship with God.
Now with some background let’s hop into why each part of the relationship is important. Starting off with solos. Solos is your daily one on one time with the Lord. It is SO SO SO important to have a solid one on one relationship with the lord. In Luke 5:16 It shows us how Jesus often withdrew from the crowds and disciples to pray. He is demonstrating that it is important to have that intimate one on one time with God rather than always have squad time. In an earthly relationship with your husband or wife you have to have those intimate moments to set aside your relationship from others. Without these one on one moments our relationships would not be strong enough.
Equally as important, squads give us a relationship with Christ through church. Church is a community of Christians where we can carry each other’s burdens and uplift one another. We were not made to live a life alone. In 1 Timothy 2:13 it tells us how the Lord made Adam and realized he needed companionship which led to the creation of Eve. Man was not made to live a life alone. By incorporating others into our walk with Christ we can grow closer to the Lord in a way we can’t in our one on one relationship. We need others to encourage and pull us closer to Christ, through Christ centered relationships.
Each part of our relationships with Christ are equally important and need to both be practiced to have a steady relationship with Him. I know this was a long blog but I am very passionate about it, and thank you for your time reading this.
Your heart is beautiful. I love you!
